If Rathbun had a written program he was following, you would probably see this particular Suppressive Act as one of his Major Targets. It well describes what he’s been trying to do since he latched onto the “independents” movement that was leftover from the Mayo days.
But far from just trying to splinter a particular area of Scientology, Marty wants to splinter it all. Anywhere that he or his sycophantic sub-SPs can reach into and try to influence Scientologist in good standings is a target area for Marty.
The personal profit motive is obvious with Rathbun. Aside from the fact that he’s making a living attacking LRH and Scientology (talk about “vampiring” that he likes to accuse others of!) he’s also taken money for his media attacks, continues to try to get money from bogus lawsuits against the Church, and works harder and harder every day to work towards that big payoff-to-go-away that he and Rinder think they’re ultimately going to get.
But media moneys have dried up and he has to live on donations from SPs and “auditing” fees he occasionally gets from those who haven’t yet heard of his real results.
The personal power motive is clear, too. A quick look at Marty’s blog will clue you in to just how important he thinks he is. His megalomania knows no bounds. He compares himself to MLK, Martin Luther, the Founding Fathers, Ghandi anyone he can think of to elevate the image of himself away from the shabby reality of an obsessed little man typing away on his computer when he’s not fishing on a remote backwater canal listening to his favorite tunes about smoking weed and drinking wine.
But he’s got dozens of devoted suppressive followers, who subscribe to Martys code of out-ethics and share many of his motivators and justifiers. And Marty has grabbed for all the power over their daily internet natter fest that he can get. It’s heady stuff, having all those propitiative minions trying to please you so they can write something on the internet and actually have some other people pay attention to them.
And why does HE say he does it all? To “save the subject of Scientology” from the higher officers of Scientology.
It’s as though LRH wrote the above Suppressive Act with Marty Rathbun and Mike Rinder in mind. We know of course he didn’t, as this was written before these two SPs got active. But you might think that they would be a little bit clever and not be so obvious in their SP acts.
But they even use the same phrases LRH warned about. “Saving” the organization from the higher officers of Scientology is practically Marty’s battle cry.
How did this phrase get into a specific Suppressive Act penned by LRH? Because it has been tried time and again, going back a long time. It is a standard run-of-the-mill, garden-variety SP tactic, and there’s nothing new about it.
And it has never once succeeded.
