We’ve received report after report of people crashing and burning after receiving some of Marty Rathbun’s cut-rate squirrel “services.”
People reverting to drugs (even taking psych drugs,) getting involved in disreputable activities, 2D musical chairs, buying into psych-based philosophies, and even declaring they want no further “auditing” at all.
You might even think that Marty Rathbun was trying to ensure that anyone connected with him never went any further on the Bridge, and he sought these results with his perversions of Scientology and its Tech.
As a natural squirrel, Marty natively knows the truth about the Bridge:

Except for the peyote (though there are many reports of marijuana use in Marty’s camp) that’s a pretty apt description of Marty Rathbun’s Road out the Bottom.
But then people who turn themselves in for Rathbun’s “services” generally have a history of such out-ethics activity and even off-beat practices. One might even think they had decided against the Bridge before showing up at Marty’s Shack.
At least that would be one postulate that would work.
I need to correct you. I know of at least two former Marty Rathbun PCs who, while not taking peyote, went on to other hallucinogens after his auditing. I know it is crazy, but it is true. I won’t mention names here as I don’t particularly want to embarrass then publicly. Both have since left Scientology altogether and even left the squirrels.
Besides these two, there’s several other Marty PCs I know of who reverted to drugs after his auditing.
These are just the ones I know about. I would guess there’s a lot more that are hiding it.
Then there’s the hapless people who are now squirreling their brains out that were Marty’s products. If I have time, I will remember to write down the ones I know of.

About the kindest thing you could say about Rathbun is just that he’s trying to sell an off-beat brand. That’s putting it lightly.
Rathbun has proven by his actions that he does not want anyone to move up and out. He only wants people to sink further into MEST, and outlaw any possibility of them getting the gain he cannot get. This is why he has teamed up with those SPs who fear Scientology so much and attack it.
Yes. I remember Rinder said that. Just one of those little cut corners. Just like getting “C/Sing” from someone who is not a trained and interned C/S. Or like “C/Sing” with no folders. Or like auditing with one of the non-standard meters that is floating around in the squirrel circles. The truth is, there’s no one amongst the squirrels who can correct anyone on their tech. That’s one of the biggest sources of H E and R and fights amongst the squirrels – one of them telling the other that that they are squirreling and the other person having his service facs kick in and disagreeing. LRH created the whole C/S Series 25 line, a Qual Division, Ethics, and put organizations there with these things so that standard tech could be delivered. There is no way that anyone sitting out in a shack in Texas motivating and nattering after having blown for the umpteenth time, and having none of these tools available, is going to have a chance in hell of delivering standard auditing. I don’t care how much he self-promotes. Marty has a button on self-importance and therefore can’t be corrected. You can see it clearly in his postings. And it is getting worse. It is a total dwindling spiral. One alteration leads to another, leads to more overts, leads to more alterations, etc. You’ll be seeing more and more of his PCs hitting the skids
He was a mess in Germany, along with Caberta who appears truly insane, and they did it before the sp’s in the press. But like usual, he tried to blame it on other things and people.
You bring up an internal complication. Marty can never complete a cycle of action and is always frustrated by an inability to actually get a product. So, if some people are galling off the deep end because of his actions we know that he wanted worse and they were very gone to begin with.
There is so much logically wrong with trying to get any benefit from a situation like that. If only the ruds that got the person there were effectively run, they would run away immediately after!
My oh My! I just hallucinated the answer that makes Marty seem real and right. Yes, I have been wrong. When I see him doing that bag lady thing, smoking and spitting and mumbling and chasing his tail round and round – well, I had thought that was him in his native state when he couldn’t control himself. Now, I see that was when he was having an epiphany of joyous church marty.

The same pattern has happened with every squirrel group that has come along. Mayo, Bill Robertson, Alan Walter, etc, all went down the same dwindling spiral. Someone told me much the same, and more, but he’s still in comm with them and asked me not to give details.
There’s a pervasive out-rud among them that everything is open to “re-evaluation” including drug use vis a vis the bridge.
It’s not even a slippery slope, it’s a steep one. When you hang with people who have thrown out the need to be studentable or sessionable and who drink alcohol daily, and who also seem to revel in the immorality of the middle-class PTSes around them (under the guise of ‘keeping it real’) it isn’t a stretch to start thinking that drugs are no big deal.
That would be far from his first alteration of LRH. Perversion is a better word.

Philo – I think you have it exactly there. Taking drugs is no big deal by the time they do it. They have already violated the Code of Honor in many ways, they have lost their self respect, they have shrunk their reach and responsibility with the overts they have committed, and, rather than apply anything they did once learn from LRH, they put computations (ser facs) in place to tell them how right they are and hide behind those. Their banks are in control and so of course you get bank behavior. It is called a dwindling spiral because that is what it is.

Maybe it has something to do with the times that we live in and how pampered and hand-held we are by society, but it seems that there is a real lack of adventure, a real failure to stiffen the spine, and an inability to make it go right that that runs through each of them.

I just read of a squirrel putting a brave face on the fact that they are dying. Facing death I would have thought that the smart thing to do would be to come clean, to look at one’s life and see the mistakes, and minimally to recant and do everything still possible to set things straight. Sadly, there is no such attempt – the urge to “be right” is still there, strong as ever. The urge to make others wrong, to justify the misdeeds, to gain sympathy, to shift blame – it’s all there in full swing.

Par for the course it is. It is just such a silly game to be playing.
That is so obvious and true that it is easy to miss. I witnessed Haydn James having a disagreement with another squirrel on a technical matter. It’s just ser facs from both sides and there is no way they can resolve it. It was real fun to watch – I could see each of them think of the other “You are a squirrel!” and then realize that they couldn’t say that.

The only way they can “help” one another is by providing new justifications and excuses, new things to assign cause to, and loads of sympathy. They actively help one another down the chute. The camaraderie is brilliant.

Yes, much other tech applies, but I keep seeing those characteristics in what I read coming from Rathbun, Rinder, and associates. Going along with that is the selfish wish to go up the Bridge without responsibility on all dynamics. That very selfishness will keep them from getting there. No matter how they might justify it, they can’t avoid that. It’s how theta works. That’s a big cognition that none of them will ever have, or at least are avoiding like the plague.

I’ve even see recent ones come out of the woodwork and join up with the Rat, people I knew and had them filed under the “whatever happened to…” file. Each of them had their own version of that selfishness and lack of responsibility that manifested in different ways, but ultimately left them parked out in motivator land.
They each were at one time good and decent people, but each (I know this personally) had things they just would not give up and come clean with. It’s very too bad, because each of them were sweet and valuable terminals (or capable of it) in their own ways.

Well Philo, I also cannot understand it. I know how seductive it can be to justify, to ser fac, to assign blame, to hate, to be right no matter what. I have been in some pretty dark places and done all those things. But no matter how bad it has gotten I have always known a little basic truth which is that I am the architect of my own universe. And another which is that I can pull myself out of any situation if I just apply LRH tech. Any LRH tech. By seeking to destroy Scientology, overtly and/or covertly, these guys are knowingly throwing themselves into the abyss. To me that is incomprehensible.

I can just imagine the first moments at the Shack. When I was first introduced to Scientology the guy who did my test presented the tech so well that I chose to be on courses for quite a while. But what if I was at the Shack. No courses, no becoming an auditor, no learning ethics. All the things that the Rathbun is so bad at now. All the parts of the Code he has done in so devilishly.
That really shows, doesn’t it? What has he really done to give anyone an exchange? Clearly he never made any of his commitments when he was doing the legal programs. Clearly he never asked permission when he was abusing staff or trying to strangle Rinder. And now…promising auditing when he can’t audit, has no certified meter, has no C/S or folder study. It really shows.

It is so heartlessly simple, yet they have built ridges of hate instead of just tossing the stupid aside, laughing it off with some good cognitions and getting on with their lives.

I’ve read about different BSers from the 50′s, then 60′s and really, every 10 years or so someone tries to make money from LRHs works. There is always some story. In the end, it is simple to read and drill and simple to do…but not for people like Rathbun who is always, in every guise, have a problem keeping their ethics in their pants.
Is it possible for a Rathbun to promise me a few weekends on the boat fishing if I do just the odd number grades?
I would really hate to be him when he finds out what Responsibility is again.
