Marty Rathbun: 2011 in Review – Part 1

2011 was a full year of Marty Rathbun foot-bullets, screaming outpoints, and efforts to manufacture controversies that don’t exist. The year started out with bright, sparkling, false purposes for Rathbun – purposes that make social personalities wince – and ended with none of them achieved.

While I was watching the Church’s New Years Event the other night, I was struck not only by the volume of wins and accomplishments and the number of people helped with Scientology internationally, but also the specific numbers of various products and stats created by the tens of thousands of Scientologists working daily across the globe. From the number of Well-done Auditing Hours to the number of students totally turned around in their schooling in various countries, to the drug cases rehabilitated and the governments and their officials thanking LRH for the help his discoveries have brought to them in the past year.

I couldn’t help but see the genuine pro-survival, unselfish efforts of good-hearted Scientologists (resulting in great numbers of products) contrasted with the mean, decadent efforts of Marty Rathbun and his creepy little cadre of apostates and malcontents, and where it got them.

I did a mental review of Marty Rathbun’s 2011, and realized I could write 3 or 4 blog articles about his failed antics. I’ll start with this one, and hit some of the highlights – or should I say lowlights – beginning with one of Rathbun’s most laughable failures.

Marty Rathbun started the year by announcing a training revolution for squirrels: new facilities, supervisors, low prices, none of those pesky LRH checksheets, etc.

The facilities were in far-out never heard of locations. No one came. Rathbun himself promoted his own facility near the Shack, and couldn’t get anyone to come. The supervisors turned out to be either unqualified or had been RPFed multiple times for out-Tech, proponents of bizarre training/auditing ceremonies (auditing over the internet? Really? Did you guys do ANY meter drills?) or all of the above.

After painful and laborious discussions of which parts of Keeping Scientology Working to keep and which to discard, the simple fact remained, and remains to this day – no one is getting any training. It seems that most squirrels don’t feel the need to be trained to go spinning around and around. It just comes to them naturally. That of course doesn’t stop Marty Rathbun from citing made up stats to cover for the fact that he failed to observe an obvious and simple fact in the first place; that if his audience of case and training failures had ever really wanted to learn or use Scientology, they would have done so long ago, and that the “barriers” that prevented them from doing that were not the Church, or KSW, or COB but their own ethics situations (unhandled MU’s, O/W’s, unacknowledged A-J status – mainly Responsibility for Condition.) They are people who wanted “freedom” without responsibility, and they wanted it handed to them.

Marty Rathbun’s friends didn’t want to do the work of studying Scientology in the first place, and they don’t want to work to study his unrecognizable version of it now.

Not long after, some guy named Haggis pops up and declares himself fully in alignment with Rathbun’s natter points and resigns from the Church. Rathbun gets alarmed at the notion of someone using Haggis’ PC folder data to reveal a scandal, and screams in pain. In one of his usual leaps of Rathbunian logic, Marty fails to notice the guy hasn’t actually had a PC folder for over 30 years. He needed a way to try to revive a fading career and had just followed Rathbun’s degraded advice to “vampire” (as Marty puts it) off of Scientology in order to manufacture publicity for himself.

The guy becomes the centerpiece of a long, unreadable attack piece on Scientology in a New York magazine which is a showcase of yellow journalism and merely a re-hash of decades of character assassination of LRH and falsehoods about Scientology itself. Rathbun salutes it as “fine journalism” and hopes it will increase the donations he receives, since he was cited as a source for much of the entheta. It doesn’t. Rathbun makes covert pleas for hits to the Paypal button on his site. The article fades like all entheta attacks, and Rathbun goes fishing and mopes.

Undeterred, and after some refreshing telepathy with fishes, Rathbun decides to continue his “good work” by finding the most rabid and ravenous SP he can locate and join forces. After boasting that he was going to “handle” the situation for Scientologists in Germany, Rathbun goes there and follows Ursula Caberta around and performs like a trained pony for her, even crying on cue for some assembled media Merchants of Chaos. As if he hadn’t debased himself enough, Rathbun went on to show a stunning lack of PR awareness and pleaded before a German audience that his crimes were due to the fact that he “was only following orders”. If you wanted proof that Marty Rathbun is a stupid man, look no further.

The end result of course, was strengthened government oppression of religious freedom. “Good work,” Marty.

As if those down stats weren’t enough, Rathbun keeps trying to create an effect, and make money. Like a corny cartoon villain, Rathbun then tried to assemble a group of the foulest Scientology/LRH-hating culprits he could find anywhere to create a team of super-villains to bring down his dreaded nemesis, Scientology. This included not only Caberta, but Graham Berry and Mark Bunker. This was perhaps Rathbun’s biggest foot-bullet of the year because he could now no longer hold up the façade that he was in favor of both LRH and Scientology, just opposed to the Church.

Many of the people he had managed to fool with this now silly-looking canard began quietly tiptoeing away from him at this point.

One of the funnier foot-bullets that Rathbun’s keystone-cop corps of new super-villains thought up was a petition to the White House to investigate the government for not investigating Rathbun and Rinder’s fevered fantasies of Church wrongdoing. Needless to say, it went nowhere as they were following the advice of a nut case known for his life-long inability to get a product, the officially declared “vexatious litigant,” Graham Berry. Every squirrel and SP who could be contacted went scurrying around creating false internet identities to add numbers to the petition, and of course whining when their subterfuge fell flat.

I can’t decide if the funniest part of that was Rathbun pretending he had nothing to do with it, but merely supported it, or the way he assailed the government and law enforcement authorities afterwards, accusing them of corruption. He even adopted Berry’s hyper-paranoid world conspiracy theories in doing so. Law enforcement probably now has Rathbun filed under “nut cases on the edge.”

These things I’ve mentioned so far would be enough for any SP with some self-respect to go hide and change his name. But not Marty Rathbun. There’s much more, and in part 2 I’ll talk about Rathbun being publicly abused by a porn-rag editor he considers his “friend” and “brother.”

Good stuff Vince. I was just thinking it would be a good idea if you did a quick precis of the best Rat moments of the year.
    .
Marty is a Rat and is an SP. Even the duller squirrels know that by now.
    .
Looking back over the year, the thing that struck me most is the number of people that one no longer sees posting on the Rat blog. There are a few new names and sockpuppets of course, but most of the people that originally signed up to Rat’s agenda and swore allegiance to him are, surprise, surprise, no longer supporting him.
    .
That was the way it went with the Mayo squirrels too – all of the people who were associated with him eventually fading into oblivion. I know of only one person who was part of that scene that made it back onto the Bridge, and no more than a handful who are still even squirrels. On the other hand, I know of a great many of them whose lives failed utterly, and many who terminally gave up amidst the crashed dynamics and raging banks they had unleashed upon themselves.
    .
In 2011 Rat gained nothing. He lost squirrels, he lost his facade, he lost media support, and he very obviously and publicly lost his marbles. In 2012 I predict that he will lose everything.

If there was any schadenfreude in watching the Rathbun Regression, having missed catching a few more people who fell for his crap then decided to get out of it, is disappointing…but there is more time for most of them, while Rathbun clearly has no more bridges to burn: media and government are repelled by him, his own people squirming and noticing his twitches. Before he starts quoting from the James Ring The Bells song, I’ll claim it here. The Rat will have no song to sing while his mental winds smash him into the sides of the abyss he has chosen.

      • Philo says:

If anyone was schadenfreude-worthy it’s Rathbun in his decline. He’s earned it, and I have too. Don’t take it from me.

        • Philly says:

I think I’m with you there. I don’t really have ill will for people, but I will admit feeling like Rat deserves the misery he’s created for himself, especially when I think he’s doing all this out of his own mean spiritedness and desire for revenge. Plus the fact that he’s in this for money.

“He’s earned it, and I have too. Don’t take it from me.”

          Nice!

        • Lion says:

I allow myself to indulge in it because it’s so ridiculously outpointy it’s funny. Like the “super-villains” bit. If Rathbun moves into tragic, I’ll take the high road again.

        • Fuerte says:

          “Don’t take it from me”
Lol. I had to go look it up. It’s a nasty thing, but you made me laugh.
I get that it’s sort of like craning your neck to look at an car accident on the freeway as you go by.

          • Christine says:

:…like craning your neck to look at an car accident on the freeway as you go by.”
            .
There’s an interesting view of Rathbun and the Rats.

      • Sharpe says:

I think Ring the Bells is still on the table for Marty. Don’t underestimate his desire to co-opt anything cultural to try and color himself with. He’s got to do more and more dodging and putting up smokescreens for his cult followers so they won’t notice what this article talks about.

        • Scott says:

I bet you’re right. He is desperate enough, he is uncouth enough, and gosh darn it, he done everything to deserve nothing at all.

        • Lion says:

He’ll use whatever he can to disguise his real agenda. It seems to me Rathbun spends most of his free time on wikipedia looking for noble or hip things to compare himself to and twist his ugly program to look like.
          ..
Face it, if he couldn’t use metaphors, the fact that he’s got nothing but destructive purposes would become clearer to even the moral mites who hang with him.

          • Scott says:

“Face it, if he couldn’t use metaphors, the fact that he’s got nothing but destructive purposes would become clearer to even the moral mites who hang with him.”

That’s too big for a bumper sticker. I think I’ll buy an 18 wheeler and paint that on the side!

            • Christine says:

“…nothing but destructive purposes would become clearer to even the moral mites who hang with him.”
              .
I take it that a moral mite is smaller than a moral midget? Marty the Moral Mite? Yeah. That works. Is there a word that starts with R or M that describes dust or smaller? something that doesn’t really have an effect at all perhaps? because that is what I think of when the Wiff of Wrath enters my head.

    • Posh says:

I do check frequently and noticed that posters are disappearing, but haven’t kept track of specifics, as I figure why bother. But it’s obvious that people are drifting away and others are trying to cover for that. It only makes sense because it seems just about everything he did was all brag but nothing positive. The Caberta fiasco was one of the best examples.

      • Scott says:

“But it’s obvious that people are drifting away…”
        ][
Can you blame them? What are they drifting from?
Marty (or one of the goons) slapping you down if you don’t agree with today’s interpretation of The Word?

        • Posh says:

Seriously, I think that there are people who have drifted just because they at least have enough intelligence (on the surface anyway) to realize how ridiculous it is to support Rathbun and Berry and Caberta and Bunker and so on. It really seemed to go down after the Germany foot bullet. There was just no way he could portray that as anything but purely suppressive. A lot of the people who were in his camp just couldn’t even pretend to themselves that he’s not an sp, even if they did agree with a lot of his natter before that.

          • Christine says:

“…because they at least have enough intelligence (on the surface anyway) to realize how ridiculous it is to support Rathbun and Berry and Caberta and Bunker and so on.”
            .
That must have been embarrassing for the ones who gave The Rat the benefit of the doubt…which shows that they have to review how to do a Doubt formula, eh?

        • Linebacker says:

“Can you blame them? What are they drifting from?
Marty (or one of the goons) slapping you down if you don’t agree with today’s interpretation of The Word?”

Right, his history of physical violence hasn’t gone unnoticed. The squirrels he deals with are afraid of that but too cowardly to confront him so they just fade off his lines.

          • Scott says:

So sad for Saint “The Martyr” Marty. He’s so psychotic, perhaps he’ll decide to fade away from himself, just to spite himself. His compulsions seem to have that kind of logic behind them.

            • Terri says:

I know there wasn’t much accent on this in this article, but you can’t forget that Rathbun follows the points of The Criminal Mind HCOB like it was written about him.
The last datum is what I think explains all these screw-ups and “footbullets” he commits:
“THE CRIMINAL, NO MATTER WHAT HARM HE IS DOING TO OTHERS, IS ALSO SEEKING TO DESTROY HIMSELF. HE IS IN PROTEST AGAINST HIS OWN SURVIVAL.”
              ~
I look forward to a 2012 full of this for Rathbun. He’s made his own future.

          • Lamb says:

As long as they fade I’m good with that. It gives me hope that even “enthetans” can see the outrageous outpoints of Rathbuns operation.

          • Fuerte says:

They don’t fade off his lines as noisily as they faded off the Church’s lines. They knew they wouldn’t be smashed into the ground then, but would now.

            • Linebacker says:

“They don’t fade off his lines as noisily as they faded off the Church’s lines. They knew they wouldn’t be smashed into the ground then, but would now.”

That’s true. Marty is volatile and prone to physical violence so they don’t want to risk that with him. Interesting that he controls them with a treat of violence.

            • Scott says:

You make a good point, one quite the opposite of common natter yet quite true.

      • jimmyD says:

So okay, I know it’s not a bold statement, but I predict Rathbun will be left with just a handful of puppets and the village voice to post his natter of the day stories. Maybe even in this coming year.

        • Scott says:

That makes sense. He’ll continue to hemorrhage allies, he’ll continue to spiral, he’ll continue to read this journal of his absurd life. I notice that every time we say that he seems about to go suicidal and postal, that he steps from the brink – so that is a good thing.

        • Christine says:

“…Rathbun will be left with just a handful of puppets and the village voice to post his natter of the day stories.”
          .
Hmmm. My opinion is that Rathbun is just a tool for that guy at the Village porn rag. He’ll go on with his attempt to be clever and snarky after Rathbun leaves, and none of the dozens and dozens of people who tell him how clever he is will notice one way or the other. They just like snark…it could be about their mother and they would still be dancing on this guy’s pole, saying how great it all is. That’s the way it is when you don’t have a real life. That’s the way it is when you have to live your life believing the people who you sacrifice your integrity for.

    • Linebacker says:

“In 2011 Rat gained nothing. He lost squirrels, he lost his facade, he lost media support, and he very obviously and publicly lost his marbles. In 2012 I predict that he will lose everything.”

Marty’s downfall has been and continues to be an inability to keep his TR’s in. He’s reactive and it costs him. His media connections have dried up expect for the Village Voice. His followers have fallen off, since, not surprisingly his German trip was seen for what it was.
      .
2011 really downtrende for him and 2012 will be worse.

      • Philly says:

Yeah, it will be worse. I’m sure the last of this review series will salute his 2012 and wish him more of the same screw-ups. I’m thinking he’s going to start getting really bitter.

        • Posh says:

I think he’s already pretty bitter. It comes out a lot in his writing. There’s a kind of constant resignation in what he writes, like he knows it’s not going to go very far, just maybe the Village Voice.

      • NB says:

I’m beginning to think Marty’s idea of “TRs in” is just keeping his stories straight and his lies sorted out. I suppose crafting plausible natter lines is part of that, too.

Even the Great PR MartyMartyr can't put a shine on his own excuses and pretense.

    • Philo says:

(Nice to see you back, Sal.) You’re right, he did gain nothing in 2011, and in fact lost a lot. Your last para was a good summary all by itself.

That won’t stop him from tooting his delusional horn about what “good work” he did. I’m kind of looking forward to what he brags about.

      • Scott says:

Do you think that what he brags about will be an indicator of his anti-social activity like his attacks are an indicator of what he is trying to hide?

        • Philo says:

Yeah, I do, if you can read Marty’s code. It’s usually just spotting the opposite of what he says. If he says he did “good work,” you know he feels he’s succeeded in harming something, for example.

          • Scott says:

Yep; the usual weak person’s gimmick. He thinks that a lot of people will be fooled, but I doubt if he fools even himself.

    • Fuerte says:

“Marty is a Rat and is an SP. Even the duller squirrels know that by now.”
Which is proof that those who still associate with him are just SPs and rats themselves. You can’t accomplish a good goal with suppressive acts.

      • Scott says:

“You can’t accomplish a good goal with suppressive acts.”
        ][
Simple, but a great point, cause you just know that will be one of his justifiers. He's that insane.
        ][
Why else was that OK Marty?

  • MaryMc says:

That of course doesn’t stop Marty Rathbun from citing made up stats to cover for the fact that he failed to observe an obvious and simple fact in the first place; that if his audience of case and training failures had ever really wanted to learn or use Scientology, they would have done so long ago, and that the “barriers” that prevented them from doing that were not the Church, or KSW, or COB but their own ethics situations (unhandled MU’s, O/W’s, unacknowledged A-J status – mainly Responsibility for Condition.) They are people who wanted “freedom” without responsibility, and they wanted it handed to them.

Well, that has to be the most obvious thing about the squirrels, and it is totally laughable that Marty failed to see it. It shows how mixed up he really is – he thinks that the squirrels and SPs he has collected up are real Scientologists. Fail Marty, Fail!!

    • Christine says:

It is such a good point though – I must admit I only saw the top layer of it: that his collection was one of idiots with the same hatred harmonic who couldn’t keep their ethics in long enough to save themselves (much less others.) Everything else was pompous asshattery. (Why does my spell checker not have asshat in it? Happy New Year everyone.)

    • Scott says:

“…it is totally laughable that Marty failed to see it. It shows how mixed up he really is – he thinks that the squirrels and SPs he has collected up are real Scientologists.”
      ][
Oh Martyyyyy. Free advice, any time buddy. You just ask, OK? Give a few clues and I’ll let you know if you are being hood-winked by a fake-LRH appreciating Scientologist. That guy in your mirror for example.

    • Teacher says:

It’s clear that Rathbun deludes himself as much as he tries to delude others. He probably really thought people would line up for his “indy” training.

      • Terri says:

The criminal mind at work again, well said.

      • Sharpe says:

Really good point. He’s constructed a huge house of cards out of those delusions and the illusions he has tried to create of him being a positive actor, when just the opposite is true. What I like about this blog is that it points out how false that whole facade/illusion really is. It looks at his actions, “products,” and real motives.

        • Scott says:

I don’t want to take anything away from your point about this site doing well showing his intentions and the lunacy he uses to screw them up. But “He’s constructed a huge house of cards out of those delusions and the illusions…” struck me. The delusions and illusions are of his construct entirely, regardless of his excuses or who he was trying to blow down the path toward hatred with him. He has to take responsibility for creating an actual nothing.

          • Fuerte says:

I don’t know if he ever really takes responsibility for anything, but I think he knows it’s nothing, or worse than nothing, and just spends his time trying to paint his scene to look like it’s something.
Every time I check him out, it seems like he’s saying “ok, that last one didn’t work, but how about THIS!!!” and then that one fails too.

    • agog says:

well marty was pretending to be a real one for so long, and they were too, and no one could tell all the bs going between them without a program.
it seems to me that a lot of these cult members of his are finally seeing that its just the same old suppressive rathbun coming out the longer time goes on. he was nasty and suppressive when he was on staff, and then tried to pretend he wasn’t nasty and suppressive, and each month more people could see the real him.

      • Lion says:

Interestingly, even a majority of the Scn-haters on the net saw Rathbun for what he is from the beginning and weren’t fooled.

        • Carlos A. says:

and they still do. I check occasionally and there’s more natter about Rathbun than support for him. There are very few bad guys who have bought his ridiculous claim to be pro-LRH. Some of them do think he’s just as crazy as that sounds (he’s pro, but attacks everything about Scientology and supports guys who shred LRH).
Most of them just see it as a sham, which is what it is.

          • Christine says:

“…I check occasionally and there’s more natter about Rathbun…”
            .
Finally – Rathbun has a stat that can be marked on a positive incline. Congratulations Marty. Makes you want to go out and strangle someone again perhaps?

    • Sharpe says:

If Rathbun really had some perception, and wasn’t trying to run a totally dishonest scam, he would have noticed that “independent” is and always has been a euphemism for “individuated” when talking about the nuts in the field he tries to gather.
And if he really knew any tech, he would know the basic truths about how people become individuated.
      .
That’s his audience. Guaranteed to fail.

      • Christine says:

Amazing really. I can’t imagine how to graph failure to move failures.

        • Scott says:

Marty sent me a note explaining how he does this stat [cue sound track-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX4lBeRtexI]: We’ll let the x-axis show the number of failures who we have no hope of helping and the y-axis will show something else but before I get to that we will discuss the reason we call it the Why Axis since this is where the Chuch and CoB just are failing to incorporate LRH technology with modern Ecliptics. When I opened myself to communion with fishes, I learned about schools much more innate and fluid than what LRH had at his grasp, so that is why our course rooms create the success of the Eliptical Ecliptic Path with Bezier Study Tech.

    • Scott says:

“…that if his audience of case and training failures had ever really wanted to learn or use Scientology, they would have done so long ago,…”
      ][
      I really love that line.

  • Reginald says:

Talking of stats, I heard from one of the St Hill execs that AOSH UK has this year made more than 100 Clears!!!! Most of their production stats are highest ever.

I am looking forward to seeing the New Year event and hearing real wins and expansion news, and shaking my head in wonderment once again at Marty and his squirrel activity. The man is a loser.

    • Christine says:

I wonder if I’ll think of Rathbun at all while watching the event.

    • Ginger says:

It was a very good event, and very good entertainment at the beginning, too. I was there at the Shrine and people loved it. I especially liked the very hopeful beginnings in Peru, and hope there’s another Columbian miracle that happens there, too.

  • Mark says:

Nice write up. Why does he bother? He is getting nowhere, and in his desperation to create an effect he make more and more of a fool of himself. Has he no pride at all? No self-esteem?

    • Christine says:

That is such a good question. I understand how lying and distorting truths serve to itch the compulsions of proving us wrong and himself right. But when his reach has been cut off, first at the knuckles during one interview, then the fingers then wrist, ankles and knees, elbows to shoulder to him all gone now – he’s even being chastised by the guy who has to compete with the pimps in his newspaper…it has to be right humiliating. Fish whispering is probably now too much, so soon we’ll get a homily about the nobility of begging the worm.

      • Posh says:

Rathbun actually just keeps whistling past the graveyard, acting like nothing happened. It was all part of his master plan ( getting punk’d).

    • Scott says:

“Has he no pride at all? No self-esteem?
      ][
Ah, no. No judgement either. But it is ok since he has no ability to observe without his distortion field telling him that everything is just the way he wants it to be.

    • Lion says:

Mark, I think he parked his pride and self-esteem long ago. Or maybe he decided to invert them into his quest for revenge against COB for finding him out. Or it may just be even more mundane than that – sacrificed them on the altar of making a living out of destroy.

  • Christine says:

Ah Vince. How superb. Such a great rendition of a year. I’m going to have to read it into a podcast because scanning through left out a lot of detail. Just the first paragraph has essays worth of nuance and important points.
    .
“…foot-bullets, screaming outpoints, and efforts to manufacture controversies that don’t exist.”
    .
    Perfect Rathbun Wrap-up!

    • Scott says:

That is a good one but I am tilting to this one:
“As if he hadn’t debased himself enough, Rathbun went on to show a stunning lack of PR awareness and pleaded before a German audience that his crimes were due to the fact that he “was only following orders”. If you wanted proof that Marty Rathbun is a stupid man, look no further.”

      • Philly says:

Yes, perfect. It still makes me laugh. He might even still think this isn’t what he did.

        • Christine says:

There isn’t anything that Rathbun’s compulsion can’t justify, motivate, or embroider with gauze to hide his intention: complete betrayal of LRH.

  • Philly says:

Thanks…I asked for this and like seeing it. There’s so much to tell, and don’t forget to mention the squirreling and “NOTS” completions, etc.

    • Christine says:

I like the idea of a wrap-up, and highlights of the squirrel incidents are valuable. But I would request not to hear the gross ones again. Completing NOTs, hell, anything to do with NOTs, is too disgusting to think about. I don’t know why I am so sensitive because everything that Rathbun has done with cases this year have been destructive of them.

  • Posh says:

Thanks, Vince. You can see from this that all of Rathbun’s efforts are directed at suppression of Scientology and Scientologists. His facade blew off totally in 2011 and that’s really the death bell for Rathbun and friends, because he now just looks like the cranky hate-everything SP that he always was. He can smile and quote Tao and act all theetie weetie, but his actions and results really tell the story.
One thing that really becomes clear – Rathbun really can’t complete a cycle of action.

    • Scott says:

“One thing that really becomes clear – Rathbun really can’t complete a cycle of action.”
      ][
      Possible an absolute.

  • Linebacker says:

“Marty Rathbun started the year by announcing a training revolution for squirrels: new facilities, supervisors, low prices, none of those pesky LRH checksheets, etc.”

As we see none of this materialized. Squirrels are lazy – they can’t be bothered with actual study.

    • Scott says:

Low prices. Marty Rathbun, the Ralph Spoilsport of the modern age. Antelope Freeway, 1/32nd of a mile. Leave your thetan at the sponge-coated doors to match.

  • judyM says:

This is great. Love your take on some guy named Haggis. That’s what he was, just some guy. Who knew he ever had anything to do with the Church? Rathbun’s good at this, though, finding people who are blown for a long time, got nowhere, never really were, but pop up and join in his natter.
But good on you showing his “foot bullets”, I’m looking forward to next installment.

    • Scott says:

“Rathbun’s good at this, though, finding people who are blown for a long time, got nowhere, never really were, but pop up and join in his natter.”
      ][
Damn. I contradict an earlier post. MartYrMarty is good at something, even though I was right on the 2nd part – that he is good for nothing.

  • Scott says:

“As we see none of this materialized. Squirrels are lazy – they can’t be bothered with actual study.”
    ][
I can’t believe that you would generalize this way Linebacker. Is it the squirrels fault that they were promised that if they stood around in their natural state taking no responsibility for anything that a magic palace of high tech academyness would suck them into the vortex of perfect knowing?

    • Posh says:

Jeesh. That actually sounds like what some of them have been talking about recently with their discussions of different beliefs and spiritual paths, and that kind of thing. I know you meant it as a joke, but it’s not far off.

      • Scott says:

Maybe if they tossed die and multiplied it by the quote number of the Gabran reading for the day.

  • Terri says:

I went to the New Year’s Event too, and couldn’t help thinking much the same thing as you. I’m sure we’ll hear Rathbun and Rinder especially trying to trash the event and the stats and the products also. But like an old blog posting here said sometime this year (one of the funny ones) Rat and Rin don’t feel the need to produce themselves, their job is just to stand by and criticize (so it’s not an “outpoint” that they don’t produce anything. Very funny.)

  • Philo says:

Nice, great idea, and looking forward to the rest. You have to be able to do at least 2-3 more. The Rathbun and Rinder screw-ups and their efforts to polish them over can fill that out.

    • Scott says:

You’d need a newspaper format with several lead stories, several different sections, rotating banners for the Highlights of Lunacy, a special column for Unexpected Idiocies, and of course, a video selection jukebox, with slo-motion buttons for the spitting on the floor and mumbling in circles video.

  • Fuerte says:

“I couldn’t help but see the genuine pro-survival, unselfish efforts of good-hearted Scientologists (resulting in great numbers of products) contrasted with the mean, decadent efforts of Marty Rathbun and his creepy little cadre of apostates and malcontents, and where it got them.”
    ~~
Maybe I’m just feeling charitable because it’s the season, but I think this is what some of his former followers see too, and that’s why they’re drifting off.
It’s just a pretty darn strong contrast and its way too hard to overlook. Even bad guys have got to get sick of all the “everything is bad” news that he puts out.

    • Scott says:

Even bad guys have got to get sick of all the “everything is bad” news that he puts out.
      ][
I bet Marty the Martyr has an excuse for that too.

  • Avalon says:

Rathbun’s training sham is really just a sham. I think you pointed out in another article that he really doesn’t want anyone actually getting the source data without going through his interpretations, and he cant afford people getting better anyway. It’s just another lie he presents to make himself look like something he really isn’t.
Also, I guess you’re going to get to the point that he “trained” mosey himself, and had her audit above her own level, too. He just gets squirrellier and squirrellier.

  • F. Lamb says:

Great summary so far. Rathbun’s training fail was just a PR move in the first place, unless he actually thought some of his friends would get it off the ground for him. Maybe he just totally misread his audience as you said.
But I think he was just doing it in response to the big situation that you on this blog and even some of his own people were pointing out to him and that is that all he did was try to tear Scientology down but wasn’t doing anything to build it up in that “independent” freezone field. Except maybe get some of his peeps to set up a yearly bbq (another cycle of action Rathbun couldn’t pull off himself.)

    • Linebacker says:

“Rathbun’s training fail was just a PR move in the first place, unless he actually thought some of his friends would get it off the ground for him.”

I thin you’re right – it was a PR move. He was taking a lot of heat from contributors to this blog which probably prompted him to give lip service to the subject of training. Of course it was dropped after that.

    • Lion says:

That’s really it. I think it’s pretty clear Rathbun reads this blog. He thinks it’s the official view of him.

      • Christine says:

I’m sure he would like to think he is making an effect on others far more important than me and a handful of friends.

        • Scott says:

Oh, yeah! I bet he thinks that COB is reading every word of his and telling me what to type…shit, what made me type that? Hey, my fingers are on automatic.

  • Lion says:

“… pleaded before a German audience that his crimes were due to the fact that he “was only following orders”. If you wanted proof that Marty Rathbun is a stupid man, look no further.”
    ..
I love seeing this; you couldn’t have said it better. It’s about as funny as it gets, especially when you juxtapose it with him coming home and trying to take victory laps! What an idiot.

    • Christine says:

He certainly is lacking in depth – a drop of water on desert sands.

      • Scott says:

Poof! I wonder if Marty’ll reappear like Berry did, 15 years after his great disgrace, sucking up to some religious bigot in a foreign land.

    • Posh says:

Lol. That is what he did. Tried to spin it like it was all a big win, and then quickly moved on and diverted people’s attention. He’s so transparent he might as well be a window.

      • Scott says:

He thinks he is such a great PR, yet he is as transparent as his hatred. If he weren’t such a sniveler I might find some pity for someone who is so yanked around by their compulsions.

  • Scott says:

“Maybe he just totally misread his audience as you said.”
    ][
Such a wise and spectacular PR guy couldn’t ever mis-read his audience???!!!???

    • Christine says:

I was going to say sarcastically “Not on this planet.” But, since Rathbun’s compulsions are really operating from someplace else.

  • Ginger says:

I loved the event, and loved how different things were highlighted this time. But you have to watch those mental review of Rathbun, Vince. You just know he’s going to say seriously stupid and suppressive things. It’s good that you are getting out there highlighting his lousy year.

    • Christine says:

They are in so far over their heads that they won’t come close to understanding anything of what the talk about, but that won’t stop them.

  • JonO says:

Terrific article. I went to the event with some friends and you only scratched the surface of what was covered and the products achieved.
It’s got to drive the RatRin team nuts when they look at the decrepit accomplishments (if you can call them that) of Rathbun and friends over the year when compared. This is very illuminating all together.

    • Christine says:

Imagine either of them actually considering themselves as part of a team. Can’t happen.

  • D.L. says:

You said: “I couldn’t help but see the genuine pro-survival, unselfish efforts of good-hearted Scientologists (resulting in great numbers of products) contrasted with the mean, decadent efforts of Marty Rathbun and his creepy little cadre of apostates and malcontents, and where it got them.”
This made me wonder-I can see someone getting stuck in anger about something, but after a while you have to calm down and step back and realize that you are living a life that is all about destroying something. I understand that some people, maybe a lot of them, are leaving Rathburn’s natter group so maybe they are stepping back and seeing it.
I just don’t think any decent person can hold on to their hatred for long. So I think that’s just going to keep happening, because all Rathbun is selling is really just hatred.

    • Scott says:

Yeah, I bet holding on to hatred has to be really tiring. After a while the obvious release to apathy has to be really appealing.

      • Ginger says:

Apathy is above him quite a bit, by my observation. He’s sub-zero on the tone scale, and so is Rinder.

        • Christine says:

          “…sub-zero on the Tone Scale…”
          .
Yes; Scott is too kind. To even exist on the Tone Scale the being must be able to have some ability to have affinity with someone or something besides themselves or their compulsions.

  • NB says:

This is actually very funny. When you start to assemble Rathbun’s stupid (there’s really no other word for it) actions and statements, he really does start to look like the boob he is.
If you listen to each thing he says, you get caught up in his bullsh*t and can overlook the basic stupidity of his viewpoints and his actions. He has one ability, and that’s the ability to make himself look rational and causative, which all just covers up his irrationality and incompetence.
    ….
Looking at the sum total or summary of what he’s done you see the pattern. As an admin person, it’s easy for me to see the illogics in what he chooses to do and say. He’s a gift to people drilling the Data Series, even better than the SP Times, for example.
    ….
I’m hoping that anyone who thinks Rathbun is “okay” sees this and starts to realize what a Wile E. Coyote he actually is.

    • Christine says:

“Looking at the sum total or summary of what he’s done you see the pattern. As an admin person, it’s easy for me to see the illogics in what he chooses to do and say. He’s a gift to people drilling the Data Series, even better than the SP Times, for example.”
      ][
Rathbun really is brilliant in that regard, isn’t he? Someone pointed out that he is like a walking/talking clay demo of Illogics and Suppresives.

  • Peter G says:

When you show Rathbun like this it almost makes me sad to see the year end. It was Rathbun’s worst year ever because he dug his own ditch so deeply during this year.
I can’t think of how much worse he can get in the new year!

    • Scott says:

He’s a spent tool. I just wonder who his puppetmasters will come up with next. They too have blown their opportunities while the Church just continues to get the tech and the message out into the planet.

  • Teacher says:

You know that Rathbun’s story is really a simple one. It’s not simple for him because he’s so caught up in his own machinations and delusions and computations, but for others it’s a simple story and that’s really the point of your article, I think.
No matter what he does, he’s ending up creating overt products, even by his own destructive standards.
I don’t see how he can survive long this way. Perhaps 2012 will be the end of him.
    ~
He may actually have to try and go out and get a job.

    • Scott says:

He’s tried that. Didn’t work – if you’ll excuse the pun.

    • Christine says:

“He may actually have to try and go out and get a job.”
      .
Teacher, you can definitely take a win on those comedy classes you have been taking!

  • Larry H says:

Just checking in and this is well written, I’ll read the rest when you get it up here. Every time I look in on Marty Rathbun or Mike Rinder I see that they’re getting worse, but they’re still there, so I guess I’ll just say continue until they fade out.
But I will say it makes me wonder with all these “foot bullets” as you call them how they manage to hang in there and fool some people. They’re probably just encouraged by a couple merchants of chaos and all excited to see their name in print. I suppose also that someone is financing them. There can’t be all that much money in the natter business.

    • Christine says:

“…with all these “foot bullets” as you call them how they manage to hang in there and fool some people.”
      .
This has been speculated upon for a while. Of course, mutual out-ruds is the first thing that comes to mind. And, the rules of affinity apply, regardless of how low toned – and they all seem to have similar compulsions, similar needs to prove wrong the people who found them out, and to prove right by increasing the ‘anti’ of their anti-social behavior. So, the harmonics just fit on top of each other, vibrating their poor wicked souls into a lather of natter.

  • Brio says:

Maybe you could say Marty really had a win in 2011. He didn’t really want anyone to train and he got that!

    • Scott says:

Looking at it like that, I guess Marty the Martyr has so many categories like that for his new year event.
      ][
"Areas that had 100% potential to screw up: 7 Divisions worth"
      ][
"Areas that had 100% potential to screw up: 7 Divisions worth"
And the award goes to!!!!: Marty Mark, the great screw up. No Course Room, No Qual. No Purif, No Students (your wife? really? come on-barf me a fruitcake) No Students.

    • Scott says:

      ][
No Hours In The Chair (if there were any, they were wiped out by the drug reversion(s).
      ][

    • Scott says:

      ][
Likewise, any PR advances were wiped out by the mumbling, drooling and spitting while walking in circles in a public place film and the famous "Too Drunk for New Orleans" event.
      ][

  • Scott says:

    ][
Oh, and the small minds award for 2011: The knows-all-about Scientology management and plans, gets to the amazing building, housing the ultimate in printing presses and distribution technology, asks his trollop on tape: Watz dat? like it was all dropped from the sky. Clearly exposing himself as having no ties, no inside data, no ability to hide his stupidity, even to one of the more stupid people imaginable who was holding the camera.

  • Scott says:

So many more divisions to come in the award show for everyone.
    ][
Highlights to come-The Great Flake Excuse: Yeah, well, ahh. We didn't do nothin' cause we're still buck naked out in the woods here.

    • F. Lamb says:

I think Rathbun has stopped making excuses for nothing and moved onto making up stats to make it look like something. E.g. he trained his wife to do Life Repair. There are more than one false stats there.

      • Christine says:

“…Rathbun has stopped making excuses for nothing and moved onto making up stats to make it look like something. E.g. he trained his wife…”
        .
But who could argue with a complete incompetent who has no certs himself, who has no experience in training, no experience in Qual, no ability to separate himself from his intentions and compulsions for a little self-examination, in fact, no examinations of himself since he ran like a baby from his destructive actions of Church property and time, and just out of the blue say, “Oh yeah, I trained my wife on several Grades of Training.” – Who could question that?

    • Terri says:

Didn’t he abandon that? I think he’s really trying to make it look like he has something going on, talking about not being able to book any more PC’s for a while, presenting silly looking auditing hours stats, etc.

      • Scott says:

I don’t think he had it in his plans to be so desperate. He’s bouncing all over the place trying to cover his previous screw-ups. And with nothing left to offer the snarling press, he’s just another washed-up act. For some reason I see him as another Tammy Faye Baker, trying to cover himself with BS to hide his withering self.

  • scootman says:

i love what you wrote here, especially the part about rathbun’s teamof super villians. i always knew marty would move on to stupider things, but this just shows he’s moving into cartoon land. its not just funny, its true. I think that’s the way he really thinks.

    • Scott says:

“I think that’s the way he really thinks.”
      ][
I never considered that Marty actually thinks. It really appears like a compulsion driving a rather whacked personality.

    • Christine says:

“…but this just shows he’s moving into cartoon land. its not just funny, its true.”
      .
The nice part is that everyone on the planet ignores them except themselves. So, while they keep exchanging their own bile among themselves, we are helping people in groups and individually all. over. the. planet.

  • TRex says:

Terrific essay, and a fun read. This caught my attention: “…Many of the people he had managed to fool with this now silly-looking canard…”
There was an entire group of SPs in the media who were had by Rathbun’s canard during the year. Only a few, like Anderson Cooper I think, realized they were had by Rathbun.

  • Avalon says:

Well, Happy New Year to everyone, including Rathbun.
I will say many “returns” to Rathbun, too, because I’d like to see him have a 2012 that was just as “successful” as his 2011.

    • Scott says:

Ho boy! That’s tough love, wishing Marty gets back what he has given. That much hate would fit him like a glove, but he is already so full of it that he’d fry before our eyes.

  • StillAround says:

Rathbun’s big training plans sound like everything he’s ever done, really. But he was always able to put a false front on the things he did so he wouldn’t look like the source of the problems. He’s trying to do that again now I’m totally sure, but it’s getting to be a real tired act, so I’m not surprised he’s losing followers.

    • Scott says:

Big Plans? Our Marty? His plans are to achieve what his case tells him to do without doing anything. He’ll say he is going after the Church when all he wants to do is go after being exposed as a petty tyrant with a bent for hurting people.

      • Christine says:

“He’ll say he is going after the Church when all he wants to do is go after being exposed as a petty tyrant with a bent for hurting people.”
        .
That is cool. Are you saying that he is actually trying to do himself in, and that explains why he has screwed everything up so well, losing all his potential mojo every time he wandered around opportunity? Where have I read about that before?

  • Partout says:

I love how you guys are keeping an eye on Rathbun. Even earlier squirrels and splinter groups couldn’t rack up the madness that Rathbun seems to excel at. I also marvel at the variety of his overt products.
I’ll give him this – he’s a manic overt product producer, not just a one-shot lunatic. It also seems that he’s attracted some of those one-shot lunatics into his group of net nuts so he’s a real active gatherer, too. That all tells me that Rathbun is all in, it’s all or nothing for him, and he just can’t recognize that after this 2+ year campaign he’s ended up with nothing.
That’s the real tale of 2012 for this guy.

  • troy says:

It is so funny that when the squirrel of squirrels tries to train others with his “tech” that no one comes. It proves a very good point that those who don’t want to do standard Scientology have no other road to go down. Anything and everything they offer will not work and will just stick one further in the mud. It is something that they just can’t see and the known reason for that inability to perceive is their previous earlier harmful actions against others.

    • Christine says:

So true Troy. Unbelievable really. Not only is everything that Rathbun writes a lie, but its entire logic falls apart at any seam he has lied about. But these ____s just want someone to tell them how right they were to have left the Church, to prove that their common enemy is terrible. (In fact, their common enemy is terrible, but it ain’t who they’ve convinced themselves it is.)
