It’s no secret that “Scientologist” Marty Rathbun can’t find anything good to say about Scientology.
That hasn’t stopped him from parasiting off Scientology and making a living at it. Without Scientology to leech from, Marty Rathbun would no doubt still be sweeping floors.
He has stolen the name of Scientology and tries to label his technically and morally perverse philosophy as being a practice of that philosophy.
This is akin to an arsonist calling himself a firefighter.
Rathbun takes every opportunity he can to denigrate the technology of the Church of Scientology, the integrity of real Scientologists, the good works done by the Church, the motivations of it’s leaders, and even the repute of it’s Founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
You can easily see this is common to all his actions. He will not say anything good, because his true intent is destruction, not an elevation of the practice of the Scientology Religious Philosophy as he pretends.
But those who can observe with a straightforward, honest look can see that Rathbun alters everything he views, and always for the worse.
That is the indicator of Marty Rathbun’s real intentions.
“Alter-isness is the keynote of all destruction.
And any person who has a great many overts against another person starts trying to alter-is. Get the idea? He starts to alter-is the other person. He alter-ises anything the other person is doing. You see? He alter-ises anything the other person thinks. He alter-ises any other thing the other person has as a reputation and so on. And it adds up to basically what looks like destruction. And this basically is caused or can be caused by no more than an overt. In other words, you get this silly situation where one overt breeds another overt, which breeds another overt, which breeds another overt, which brings about a bad opinion.”
LRH
“But those who can observe with a straightforward, honest look can see that Rathbun alters everything he views, and always for the worse.”
Nice. But you’ll notice he doesn’t attract that kind of people.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I wonder if people notice that he’s just parasiting off Scientology like you say..he sure tries to act like he’s doing something else, and never has anything good to say about it.
You say “Rathbun takes every opportunity he can to denigrate the technology of the Church of Scientology, the integrity of real Scientologists, the good works done by the Church, the motivations of it’s leaders, and even the repute of it’s Founder, L. Ron Hubbard.”
and I think he learned his lessons from Caberta and the other SP’s he couldn’t handle. Maybe that is just because he was suppressive the entire time and was in agreement with them. It would answer his abusive behavior.
Marty is too old to be sweeping floors now, plus it doesn’t make him as much money by a long shot, and he doesn’t get to be a cult leader that way.
Rathbun’s ability to alter everything he views keeps him in copy. The worst part is how he alters LRH and the tech and his kool aid drinkers don’t notice.
He does it by omitting large parts of the tech (like spotting real sp’s, clearing up overts & withholds, spotting entheta generalities) and also by mis-applying the tech he does quote.
“This is akin to an arsonist calling himself a firefighter.”
`
Bloody great analogy.
Nice posting here, simple and to the point. It’s almost all you need to know about Marty Rathbun.
“Rathbun takes every opportunity he can to denigrate (etc.)”
“
You would think anyone (with or without training) would be able to spot what a bad news merchant he is, and how everything he talks about is just sour.
In fact, I think people do unless they’re of the same stripe as Rathbun and Rinder.
LRH nailed Rathbun when he talked about SPs/squirrels saying “it’s all bad over there.”
This is a good point, I haven’t hear a single positive thing out of Rathbun or people who agree with him. That just makes them incredible when people can see with their own eyes the good that the Church does, and it makes them incredible with people who are winning in Scientology.
It makes me think that the only people he reaches are those who aren’t winning, or didn’t win.
I actually stopped reading what Rathbun had to say because of this very fact–he alters everything for the worse. He can take the most clearly innocent or beneficial things and twist them to make them sound sinister.
It must drive him crazy since he can’t do constructive things himself.
It really is an absurd situation, and your post really emphasizes that.
Rathbun is a guy who didn’t get Scientology at all when he was in the Church, but only got an ability to talk the talk.
So here he is now outside the Church slandering every aspect of it and making it look as bad as he possibly can, while trying to present himself as the real McCoy, and asserting that he just wants to “save” it.
…
I sometimes wonder if he is trying to embody new definitions of insanity.
rathbun started out with big lies and worked his way down to altering every little thing he could think of. it looks to me that he’s just kind of on a destructive auto pilot now.
I notice however that Rathbun is finding good things to say about psychology and other practices these days.
Maybe he’s just diluting himself into non existence.
That’s Mark Rathbun’s whole story: Without Scientology to leech from, Marty Rathbun would no doubt still be sweeping floors.
…..
IT’s all about money for Marty. He’s just trying to keep other Sp’s donating to him while he sells some of that squirrel garbage to people who he convinces has something to do with Scientology, and he only finds people who couldnt get there the right way in the first place.
I find it hard to believe that Rathbun is still trying to convince people he is a “Scientologist”.
I keep looking in here expecting to see the news that he finally admitted he was working for a pharma company or something like that.
That really sums it up. It really explains the simplicity of Rathbun’s horrible life. Stuck on some anti-social act that he can’t come clean on. Then he made it worse and worse until he turns into the solid mass he is now. Sad really.
Simple and sweet, and tells you what’s behind Rathbun’s incessant attacks on the Church.
This is what’s been behind attacks on the Church since day one, too. You could extend that quote to Bunker and Caberta and every other “critic” we’ve ever encountered.
Only a wacko like Rathbun would trash the TWTH wins that have helped so many people, and it really makes me wonder what kind of people would support him. He must appeal to the destructive element in people, and I find it hard to believe that his “friends” were ever in there among other decent Scientologists but suppressing their real intentions.
Only people who can NOT observe with a straightforward, honest look would buy into what Rathbun keeps trying to sell. The bank follows the line of attack and that is what’s common about what little audience Rathbun has.
But your point is a good one; destruction is the keynote of Rathbun’s entire little cottage industry, and without Scientology he would have to find something else to leech off of.
As a suppressive, Rathbun is only going to invalidate the good and validate the bad. Look at how he’s praising psychologists now, and validates every possible angle of middle class PTSness for his cult.
As time goes on, you will see Rathbun praising other harmful philosophies or groups, I’m sure of it.
He can’t help himself.
great pic, vince. it matches my mental image of rathbun.

“I sometimes wonder if he is trying to embody new definitions of insanity.”
.
I don’t think that he really needs to try. His compulsions drive him and his actions insane.
diluting to non-existance…what a great way for him to go. Nice view.
Great paragraph:
“Rathbun takes every opportunity he can to denigrate the technology of the Church of Scientology, the integrity of real Scientologists, the good works done by the Church, the motivations of it’s leaders, and even the repute of it’s Founder, L. Ron Hubbard.”
~.~
Anybody who doesn’t notice that deserves what they get with Rathbun. The only time he seems to praise LRH is when he’s praising his own interpretation of LRH.
Quite a weird situation – he doesn’t reach out to new people. He only gets people who were unable to keep their morals in their pants and seem to be trying to get back at Scientology.
Let’s face it, Rathbun is a cartoon character who must have no idea how he appears to rational people.
So let him promote psychology. One of these days one of those guys will turn around and notice what a schizo rathbun is.
alter-isness is definitely the keynote of all of rathbuns actions, as long as I’ve been watching him, which is over 20 years now.
he’s really not capable of being honest and straightforward, even if he tried. that’s my experience with him.
That is really an interesting concept Arthur2. Could be a combination, some people one way, some the other, and I be that most are not even attracted to Rathbun but are desperately trying to fit their hate and incompetence wherever they can.
“He has stolen the name of Scientology ”
It seems to me he has stolen a lot from Scientology and is profiting from it. But look who his friends are, they’ve also been stealing a living out of Scientology, or at least from attacking it. (Bunker, Cabrerta and those people)
But Rathburn reminds me of the lawyer Berry who has been trying to hit it big out of attacking the Church most of his life. He’s a loser but Rathbun thinks he can win.
Einstein called insanity doing the same things over and over and expecting different results, and we know Rathbun is not sane.
Yes; nicely chosen. And just like Rathbun, the guy in the picture is incapable of getting a fire started even though he is surrounded with the tools.
Very true, and he’ll make himself look stupid in that arena as well. He’ll sound more delusional than Jung.
Double Triple Zing D.L. – Nice.
He really is one sick little pooch pretending to be a large guard dog with a big bite. The only thing he impresses are rabbits and small rodents.
He is an extremist, despite his pretend attempts to ‘walk the middle path.’ That is why he can never admit to anything good about the Church or its leadership.
.
Sane people do not assume extreme viewpoints, and LRH discusses why not in his many references about multi-valued logic, and the issues on the Data Series – as well as the basic references on ethics.
.
I for one applaud his extremism as it is the best and most visible demonstration of his utter insanity.
I think you are right when you wonder if he was suppressive the whole time. He was and he is. The only thing that makes sense is if you realize that Marty is stuck in some age old, long gone, incident where he was fighting for his life and completely overwhelmed. He didn’t know who the enemy was or why they were trying to kill him, and just lashed out at everything. Like a drowning moose that will attack anything that gets close including those trying to save it.
Whatever the incident is, he is stuck in it and it is ongoing in his daily life and has been part of his daily life since birth.
No matter the various beingnesses Marty has tried to assume, one thing always remains constant – his sudden, inappropriate, random extreme violence against those around him. He did that to his family, he did that at school, he did that in the Church, and he does that now to people who make the stupid mistake of thinking he is their friend.
He needs to go to a real quiet place and watch rocks growing for many years until he becomes aware of his actual surroundings and can differentiate that from the pictures he is bombarded with.
More importantly, anyone can see what you are actually doing and whether you are doing a good job or not. He’d be fired within days as his ability to sweep floors is no better than his ability to produce any honest product. Now, if there was a floor sweeping job that required an inability to get the floor clean, inability to take orders, inability to show any initiative at all – well then he’d be the big cheese.
If you want a great example of his creating copy from his ability to alter things, look no further than his post today. He takes an innocent comm and ‘interprets’ it with vilification, dub in, false accusations and other stuff he gets from his criminal mind. It is not hard so see through Rathbun, but that posting provides an exceptionally direct and clear view into the little clinker he calls his soul. It is incredibly tormented and vexatious. I almost feel sorry for him.
I think his “walk the middle path” business is mostly an effort to promote middle-class PTSness. He’s in love with things staying the way they are, or getting worse. A lot of his buddies are the same way, too. Notice how they pine for the good old days of smaller, less upstat orgs and that sort of thing.
No, he doesn’t. His choir is the most tunnel-visioned, acquiescent group of people I’ve seen. Some may go through the motions of asserting a mildly different view every once in a while, but then they are quick to bend over to Marty or Mike as soon as they detect a whiff if disapproval.
Hence, all the natter about “cults.”
The only ones I’ve ever seen show up at Marty’s blog soon disappear. Some have been attacked outright and even banned.
Rathbun can’t stand sunshine.
Virtually everyone I’ve ever known who has heard about Rathbun can see that. The one question that I’ve heard repeatedly is along the lines of “if he’s so unhappy, why doesn’t he just go away?”
The answer is that he profits from what he’s doing.
Any decent C/S can see what you’re talking about without ever having seen his folders. (they would still look)
I had the impression that he was being held in check currently, especially after his blow-ups with the “busters” who kept showing up.
…and before that overwhelming attack on him, he had been a very bad boy.
two things: marty doesn’t want other to see him doing things that aren’t super-high status (unless it’s something like fishing, where he pretends to be a nice good old boy)
…and…
he can’t stand observation of him producing products in the physical universe cause he’s just not that good at it. words and bs, yes. but not clean cycles of action.
You said it well – Rathbun definitely became what he failed to handle. And maybe you’re right; maybe he couldn’t handle because he was that way himself, though quite hidden. Good point.
You nailed it DFG, and there was an article here about a year ago on that point about him becoming what he failed to handle.
But I think it’s clear that he’s been an SP for a very long time.
He knowingly adopted their tactics, DFG.
It even looks like he surveyed all the attackers he knew of since the beginning and copied all their methods.
I guarantee you Rathbun feels that he was out of valence when he was supposed to be handling them, but he’s in valence now.
Even if that weren’t the case, his gargantuan button on self-importance wouldn’t let him.
They can’t afford to notice. Rathbun himself and the “indie” movement is a house of cards that falls with any standard use of Qual, for example.
What we see with these guys technically is mostly an image they’re trying to put forth.
That’s one of the gorilla-sized outpoints about the whole operation. No one calls Rat on the Tech and his alterations/omissions, etc.
Each one of them, from Rinder on down, knows they would be between Marty’s crosshairs if they did. There’s actually very little courage or “independent thinking” among them. If you cut through the false front, they are supporting him because he attacks the Church, against which they have overts and with which they got themselves into extreme game conditions.
…
You will notice, though, that they’ll ignore Rathbun’s repeated and clear tech degrades and wildly off policy actions and at the same time jump up and down demanding to know which policy the Church is operating on in doing various things.
It really is apropos.
Yeah – and it really is that damn obvious.
While he leaves evidence all around him that he’s been lighting fires, too.
It looks to me like he’s trying to run an arsonist school!
It is great, and it made me laugh. It’s just so painfully obvious that Rathbun is anything but a Scientologist. He works against virtually everything Scientology stands for, and can’t seem to hear anything about real Scientologists without twisting it and attacking it.
True, and one who shows up at the fire looking over his handiwork blaming the firefighters for the fact there’s a fire there.
You’re right, it’s a kind of Cliff Notes to Rathbun.
It’s all you need to know about his daily op basis. There’s a lot more to know about Rathbun, like his record of overt products, congenital lying, history of brutality, etc.
I’m convinced they do, and only those similar buy what he says. He’s got a smaller audience than he would pretend. Fact is he only has a microscopic percentage of all the net SP’s that are out there. There’s nothing that says all SP’s have to be stupid.
It does make them not credible, especially in light of the gross attacks on Scientology they are party to. I’m talking about Rinder and Rathbun particularly, and it goes to show how bad Rinder actually is at public relations.
“You would think anyone (with or without training) would be able to spot what a bad news merchant he is, and how everything he talks about is just sour.”
….
I’ve looked at other entheta sites and boards, and even other attackers see that. He’s considered a huckster and joke by most of them.
No need to read him, this article tells you what he’s doing one way or another. It’s his little formula even though his daily specifics might change.
Sadder is that his supporters are in the same boat. They’ve guaranteed failure for themselves when you think about it, just by this point alone.
Absurd is right. The arsonist/firefighter analogy is an apt one, when you step back and look at it.
What’s really absurd is how much of the absurdity is just flat not-issed by people who hook up with him who really should know better and take off their blinders. I know a few of them, and I know they’ve been exposed to the tech which should make them shun Rathbun like the plague (e.g. Logan) but refuse to apply it in life, or get over their own irresponsibility for their condition so they can actually see.
Rathbun has no one’s best interest at heart.
There’s plenty of all that now. Rathbun’s so arrogant, he thinks he can (or should) retrace LRH’s steps in sifting out truths from older philosophies and so forth. (plus it’s a covert inval of LRH, like he didn’t do it right the first time.)
There may have been some who had wins on the 1st dynamic but never could win on the others due to their own out ethics situations. Even mechanically, they would have gained from going through processes. But it still leaves them nowhere, and look where they are – individuated and fooling themselves into thinking they are “scientologists”.
He steps in front of LRH as an interpreter and is just continually trying to position himself as a Source. But his actions show that he really doesn’t know.
That inclusion of psychology and “other viewpoints” is just a covert effort to deconstruct LRH and the tech. It’s not as subtle as he thinks.
I’d bet he’s getting the psych text recommendations from people like Bunker and Hall and Hawkins.
That’s a good way to describe it. He reaches into every little corner he can think of. I imagine it has to be disheartening for him to blast out all the most gross accusations he could think of and see no result from it except for other no gain cases occasionally joining him.
Stay tuned. As his audience and money dwindle, he may have to do that. It almost looks like he’s setting the stage with all his psychobabble.
I stopped calling these guys The Rat Brigade for the same reason that I don’t think that there is a need to insult animals by associating animals with the useless sand motes trying to smear the group that they weren’t good enough to be members of.
Very good – and look at all the rationalizations they’ve used to justify their theft. LRH would not be pleased. Plus they are actively trying to bring down the organizations he created and put in place for the future.
It’s a serious out-exchange situation with what looks like everyone who’s been trying to make a living from parasiting off Scientology gathering to them.
The one thing that he needs he can’t confront…how ironic.
Amazing what he considers profit, eh?
“I had the impression that he was being held in check currently, especially after his blow-ups with the “busters” who kept showing up.”
][
Compulsions like his to make people wrong and prove himself right are too much for someone like Marty fight. He’ll keep getting into trouble no matter how stupid each successive attempt is.
And what valence is he in when he is spitting on the floor and acting the bag lady in public? Or the valence when he is pissing off the police in New Orleans so much they toss him in jail?
I imagine that there are a few million not impressed by his big button of importance, and what, a few derelicts who tolerate him.
Exactly!
Lots of funny that. Berry berry good.
Definitely a keeper. Right to the point of nailing the silly boy.
Oh Posh, that is as insightful as this article. He must toss and turn with self-loathing when he isn’t drunk or doing his bag lady routine insane.
Solid point about solid desperate lonely people.
This, Philo, is one of the most salient points made to date. There are many of his followers who know that he is a squirrel. Maybe not all of them all of the time, but people like Logan, James, Rinder and even De La Krac have all seen him do things that they know are out-tech, out-ethics and/or out-admin and yet each of them is too scared to call him out on it because of the violence of his reaction. Rathbun is EXACTLY what he accuses others of.
There’s a whole lot of “it’s-not-carved-in-stone” thinking that has gone on in Marty’s camp with regard to the tech, which is close to the heart of squirrels. In fact, as you yourself pointed out recently, there was (still is) debate there about what parts of KSW are valid, etc.
Of course, they make it sound “reasonable” at times, which is just a squirrel’s way of getting the camel’s nose in the tent.
(And before you know it, the camel’s eating your dates and defiling your wife and daughters.)
Those various beingnesses he tries to assume are not a convincing disguise as you point out. He’s stuck in it and the way out for him is the last thing he can confront.
rocks are definitely what he needs, if only to have something less vital to suppress. it is really no wonder he goes on nattering about objectives. they would probably be a good cs for his choir too.
Not enough significance, and that’s where Rathbun lives. That and occasional outbursts of physical suppression.
Philo, I think Rathbun knows his audience, and gathers those who are willing cult personalities. The insidious part of it is their PR line about being able to think for themselves. They think what Marty allows them to think, and that’s it.
You can practically read them shivering when it appears Marty doesn’t approve of one of their comments or ideas.
It takes a good amount of courage to stand up for the tech, especially in the midst of all the group think Rathbun is encouraging. The characters you’re talking about have little in the way of real courage, and the ones I’ve known (De La C, Logan) have always been ready to argue with the tech at the drop of a hat. They are their own breed of squirrels.
Dispersing the tech is an old tool of Rathbun and other squirrels. It happened to Buddha.
If any one of these mutts were really interested in “policy” they wouldn’t have the nerve to complain about a single one in the Church, because they KNOW they are committing grotesque policy violations every day.
Start with the Suppressive Acts policy, for crying out loud. Imagine them trying to explain to LRH how what they do and support is “okay.”
The fool thinks that every attack on the Church makes him “safer,” but doesn’t notice that it hasn’t and that he’s still under constant mental attack from his “enemies.”
The proof of that for me is how they have marginalized themselves further as credible tech terminals by their acquiescence with Rathbun’s gross alter-is.
…
They’ve had to let themselves slide to the bottom of a very slippery slope to end up connected with a “tech terminal” like Rathbun who audits NOTS processes on lower level PC’s, for one.
The truth is that it would be eons before the Old Man would let either one of them anywhere near tech lines in light of that.
Rathbun’s knowingly trying to dilute the tech itself into non-existence (and non-use) as far as I’m concerned. He’s just doing it ever so covertly in most cases.
With the same malicious glee at the suffering of others, too.
Thanks, and well done. Your comment is something that no one in Marty’s camp would dare to discuss. They would lose their posting privileges and they would be attacked and ostracized.
Thanks for saying that, Scoot. You observed him in action probably more than I did, and you keep pointing out things just before I do.
Lol, but true. Nice.
“Walk the middle path” is a disguise for not being able to take the high road, the road described by LRH, the only road that works.
The Church is attacked because the nature of what we do as a group is anathema to the cartels of corporatized vampires descended from the worst in suppressive personalities known to the ages. Marty Rathbun has nothing to do with the Church being attacked except that he is the pawn of these groups who have so much to lose as we become more and more successful.
Maybe he can be successful with rocks, since he has failed with entire genus of slime and slithering parasites. The man has no control at all, just false bravado and threats…though, if I was Rinder’s neck, I might disagree.
I couldn’t care less when he made the postulate to destroy in order to prove himself right…all I care is that he decided to allow his compulsions to control him and then he decided that he had to control others in a suppressive manner in a misguided effort to stay ‘safe’. Now that he is rotten to the core, none of that matters.
Imagine the desperation involved with a decision like that! No imagination, no hope of really making a change, just doing the same thing that already failed people have done with all the rest of the failed personalities.
To think that someone would call that ‘living’. Teacher, how could that be? Doesn’t Rathbun’s suffering eventually show up as public displays of baglady, random forced drunk-tank visits and the squeezing of Rinder’s neck until almost dead?
A note on the effectiveness of the indies and the Rathies: You just don’t see them being attacked by pill pushers and anti-rehabilitationists. They are no threat, because they are ineffective and, they are actually pushing the same line that you can choose a few pearls and ignore the items that your compulsions can’t confront.
It isn’t as if they were really ever associated with tech lines before!?! which is part of their problem. Their understanding is based upon the abstractions of their misunderstoods and the hot winds that their compulsions use to keep them away from actually confronting and resolving their issues.
I don’t see it that way Teacher. It attributes awareness and competence to the Rathbun that I don’t see in evidence. I think it is just desperate people who get jerked off in cycles, and left in the lurch, then panic into the next cycle of jerking – especially if it promises to extort money while proving them right and others wrong!
Pur ‘em all in the same room and they’d still only fit at a couple tables of any Basics Course at many orgs around the world. That one set of pawns talks bad about another set of parasites is amusing.
Recommendations would also come from the pharmaceutical companies in Hamburg that fund Caberta.
It is very hard to sound more delusional than Jung with his star charts and the pretzel logic to justify affairs with patients (and former patients) and, of course, shock treatment.
“IT’s all about money for Marty. He’s just trying to keep other Sp’s donating to him…”
][
This reminds me of that Freud quote:
A very astute comment on Rathbun – that an arsonist would call himself a firefighter. That the rat’s method of describing himself.
