Ever notice that you never hear Marty Rathbun tell the real story of why he blew? Oh sure, you’ll hear that he was disgruntled (to put it mildly) with “conditions in the Church.” Things became “unbearable” for Marty… untenable, unacceptable, blah, blah, blah. Yet despite his “ultra-high” position in the Church, he was unable to improve the imagined conditions he whines about to this day.
In fact you will hear from Rathbun (and his fellow apostates, to a man or woman) everything but the real reason they abandoned their codes of honor and blew. You will hear every complaint imaginable under the sun, except the one that will open the door to the handling of their miserable condition.
You will never hear them say “I committed a lot of severe overts over a long period of time and finally had to remove myself from the group I was harming and start to manufacture reasons why those overts weren’t as bad as they look, and somehow ‘justify’ them.”
Yet this is the sole reason why Rathbun, Rinder, and the few apostates they’ve gathered around them blew and do what they are doing.
As LRH said in “Blow Offs”:
“People leave because of their own overts and withholds. That is the factual fact and the hard-bound rule. A man with a clean heart can’t be hurt. The man or woman who must must must become a victim and depart is departing because of his or her own overts and withholds. It doesn’t matter whether the person is departing from a town or a job or a session. The cause is the same.
Almost anyone, no matter his position, can remedy a situation no matter what’s wrong if he or she really wants to. When the person no longer wants to remedy it his own overt acts and withholds against the others involved in the situation have lowered his own ability to be responsible for it. Therefore he or she does not remedy the situation. Departure is the only apparent answer. To justify the departure the person blowing off dreams up things done to him, in an effort to minimize the overt by degrading those it was done to. The mechanics involved are quite simple.”
In Marty Rathbun’s delusional world, he didn’t “blow,” he merely “departed” the Church. That’s how he describes it to his fellow Merchants of Chaos in the media.

Pay special attention to the continuous withhold Rathbun admitted to of trying “ to maintain the false impression that I have some other production record externally that warrants me maintaining a high position. In fact, this is a fraud I have perpetrated,” and note that he is still doing that to this day.
To listen to Marty, he is the guy who routinely “out-maneuvered” the FBI and IRS, yet was unable to conduct a mere ethics interview with a fellow staff member without banging his (or her) head against the wall or literally kicking him in the posterior.
I don’t see him being causative enough to handle any situations except to make them worse. Didn’t he even admit that was his specialty?
Rathbun doesn’t deal in real reasons, he deals in self-promoting excuses.
The one thing Marty won’t do is come out and attack himself. He probably feels like taking responsibility would be like attacking himself. Besides, it’s always someone else who made him do all those bad things.
Rathbun blew a few times, didn’t he? But he tried hard to conceal that from everybody under him because that would have meant he lost face and status from what I read.
He looks like he tried to write up his O’s but didn’t do it per the tech with time, place, form and event.
So he blew again.

I laughed when I read this. Rathbun and Rinder, and every little SP they get to write up their list of accusations never did anything wrong according to them. They’re always victims and have no idea why because each one of them was just an honest little angel.

But they’re still just “independent practitioners” who are misunderstood.

It’s a good idea IMO to take this tech mainstream. People should know it. You might think of posting a good, thorough definition of “overt” and “withhold” so anyone not familiar with these things who happens upon this site is well briefed.
You are busting Rathbun with this; there’s no way around it. There are very few people that I’ve ever seen who dramatized the overt/blow phenomenon as loud and clear as Rathbun did.
I’ll bet a week’s pay, however, that Marty the SP never even considers the validity of this. He’d have to shift into valence first.
You can file this under Rathbun’s “lost tech.” That is, tech that is LOST on Rathbun because he never duplicated it or invalidates it or just plain can’t confront the truth.
He’ll go merrily along committing overts and suppressive acts telling himself and others that he’s just doing good works.

Herein lies the common denominator to Rathbun and the failures he draws to him. Not one of them really wanted to handle anything they complain about. If they did, they wouldn’t have the motivators they needed to blow. They couldn’t take the responsibility to handle because of their overts.
Yes, it sounds stupid, and it is stupid, but you have to have certainty on the mechanics of it.
And that it IS mechanical.
I read the links. Rathbun seems to be big on perpetrating frauds, cause he’s still up to it.
Someone pointed out that you can tell the severity or magnitude of the overts these guys have committed by the severity or outrageousness of the natter they spew. It’s a kind of yardstick.
Rathbun must have some real whoppers still hidden.

I doubt it’s much of a joy, even for him. In those videos, you seem him when he’s alone and doesn’t know he’s being watched, he just looks terrified. Rathbun’s real story is just that he has always been a heavy overts case and I think has never been cleaned up on any of it. From all I know of him, I see that he has been evading handling since the beginning, and this shows in his behavior.
Before he is all over, you will find some serious crimes he is withholding for the longest time.
Only people who know nothing of this phenomenon (and perhaps other cases like Rathbun) would believe that he just “departed” the Church.
We all know the real story as you have related it here. If Rathbun were on source, he would take advantage of the real tech and get cleaned up so he could have a happy life. He should have done so long ago. Now we see how dangerous it is not to do so, and where one can end up.
The more I see this explained, the more I notice that Marty Rathbun is just a criminal trying to use illegal copyrights and degrade the good name of another. I still haven’t figured out if he was planted in the Scientology structure.
Seeing Marty Rathbun’s overts and almost hidden withholds is of no interest to me, except that if he puts them out he can be rid of them, which will help the planet (and of little consequence, help him.)

Status and perception were always paramount with Rathbun, and Rinder too. It’s common enough with individuals in high positions and there is a modicum of validity to not allowing oneself to lose altitude while getting back into a higher condition.

Great article Vince. Spot on. Hits the nail on the head. Neither Marty nor any of his followers can ever admit the real reason they blew, and instead have to manufacture reasons to explain why they left and why it is now OK to harm the group. These reasons are lies at their core and, as lies, create stupidity and darkness. If nothing else, the fact that these people do this shows that they never duplicated one of the most basic Scientology principles – that one is Cause. It is sickening, because they are doing so much damage to themselves, let alone the damage they do to others. All criminals and all stupid people end up paying for their crimes and stupidity. So are these people.
“Each lie unveils the truth of a different lie” – brilliant. I think though it is only other people that can see he is walking through a minefield he has created. What he does is to simply create new ‘scenes’ in his life to explain away all the outpoints and try and make present time make some kind of sense – just like some low grade writers who write their charatcters into a corner can suddenly come up with some highly implausible reasons to explain how someone who who was a real asshole in the last chapter was actually a hero in disguise. No continuity or credibility.

Underneath that Philo is the fact that Marty genuinely believes that he is an equal of, if not smarter than, LRH. Marty thinks he is a messiah, and that it is his place to correct the ‘mistakes’ that LRH made and create a whole new religion that is way better. By way better, Marty thinks that if it incorporates something from all other philosophies, religions and psychiatry, then it will be more appealing (which is more important to him than whether it works or not). Marty has no concept that Scientology actually works – just look at him.

Even if Marty were to deny (I’m sure he does) thqt he wrote and published this willingly, who can deny that this is a PERFECT description of the sum total of what Marty has accomplished since he blew? He hasn’t produced a single, legitimate, honest product. He has stolen tech and viciously maligned old friends in an attempt to create as much turmoil as possible. Quite the accomplishment, Marty!!

Nice that he included Mike Rinder in his pathetic little confession. I have no pity for Rinder, of course, but that’s another signature characteristic of Marty Rathbun: Make sure you take anyone you can down with you.

It’s an amazing fact that although Marty claims to have been a very powerful church executive who had huge responsibilities he was not able to correct what he claims was “wrong” with the church. How ironic.

I am sure glad that electrons are free, because these guys are so silly stupid that they aren’t worth the cost of ink.
In his write ups, as published on this site, Marty admits that he screwed up many of the legal cases that he was assigned to handle. That is a fact that is corroborated by many other people, as well as the physical universe evidence.

I notice however that Marty is now trying to claim that he single handedly kicked the butts of the FBI and ever other government agency – the only person in the world that can out-smart and out-maneuver them.
