Unable to contain the awareness on the part of some of his personality cult members that the Church of Scientology does great works, Marty Rathbun once again has to reach hard to invalidate anything that actually helps people.
But from long exposure to his mean-spiritedness, we know that Rathbun will attack anything resembling reach on the part of Scientology. It clearly scares him to death.
So now, he’s trying to convince even his own choir that genuine help is bad, and that social betterment isn’t to be trusted.

Rathbun complains that non-Scientologists are happy to celebrate the Church’s good works and community outreaches, and tries to present it as an outpoint. If it were the other way around – if only Scientologists appeared in public touting our good works – Rathbun would present that as an outpoint, you can be sure. But this heads-I-win, tails-you-lose approach to criticism is nothing new for Rathbun or his lapdog Rinder; you can see it daily in their bitter whining from the sidelines.
Meanwhile, they produce nothing.
I won’t go into Marty Rathbun’s own perverse idea of PR Area Control, other than to mention that he actively supports Ortega’s despicable prostitution-advertising rag in order to get his ugly rants published. Rathbun ignores this of course, all the while hypocritically yearning for “advances” in “morality and the evolution of civilization as a whole.”
Meanwhile the Church continues to foster literacy programs, aid disaster victims, cure drug dependency, and even create what those non-Scientologists are calling a “miracle” in crime reduction using The Way to Happiness.
We keep an eye on Marty Rathbun on this blog, and can safely say we have yet to see a single altruistic act performed by Marty Rathbun and his personality cult members.

All in all, I’m glad he tried to make nothing out of the betterment programs because he did it so badly, and proved once again what a sour, destructive individual he is.
Marty’s version of using Scientology “to explain to others how bad it all is over there” is even a twisted one. He always takes things out of context and tries to turn them against the Church, and you can count on him altering things.
Rathbun talks about PR Area Control, and clearly doesn’t understand it. He issues a few generalities (because he’s an “authority” and “knows” these things) and thinks that just because he says so, the unthinking among his choir (probably most of them) will just eat up his criticisms as gospel.
I read the rant you’re talking about, and it looked to me like he not only had NO ammo, but was even lazy about the whole thing anyway, like he knew he didn’t have a leg to stand on and just wanted to spew a little entheta.
This is not the first time Rathbun has squealed about “front groups.”

Well said, and I think this nails it. Rathbun can’t stand forward movement, which is why he does such Orwellian things like describe his trip to Germany as a “handling” when it was an effort to move backward into the Middle Ages.

But first, you need to look at the fact that Marty regularly asserts that he applies the Data Series, and we have to wonder why the constant assertion on that point. Why does he have to try and convince people that he is using some kind of tech to come up with his erroneous and suppressive conclusions? Once again, the Criminal Mind HCOB gives us the clues, because, along with his assertions, he accuses anyone who does NOT buy into his lies of NOT using the Data Series.

Marty does exactly what the Data Series says not to do. He “uses” it to “prove” his “theory”. Adjusting facts to prove a conclusion rather than using facts to arrive at a conclusion is an age-old fault among certain people. Hundreds of years ago Confucius identified this malady and coined the technical term for it, which is known to modern man as “ass about tit”.

Thanks, Sig, this makes perfect sense to me after watching him for so long. When I knew him, I was struck with his complete asserted rightness at all times. He forced his rightness for himself and others. I see this today in his utter inability to withstand even the slightest of questioning. He knows there is no data behind the conclusions he spouts, but only aberrated conclusions with data jammed in all around them to “support” them. Thus his continual, obsessive quest for “data” and “facts” to support his assertions. You’ve illustrated his meatheadedness nicely.

For my money, his main conclusion (that “he’s an SP”) was arrived at because “he” was the one who finally spotted Marty, and for probably the first time in Marty’s life, “he” was the only one who faced him and said “no more.”

But your point about the Ethics book and tech is the most important. Rathbun and his fellow “apostates” have nothing to fear but Ethics itself, and join in on the attack against that terminal who puts Ethics in on them and others. Ergo, he’s their best target.
He creates his own unhappiness. The real tragedy is that he spent the longest time in the lap of the only tech that could have handled him and never took advantage of it. He couldn’t keep his nose clean enough for the tech to bite.
If Rathbun and friends ever did perform an altruistic act, it would surely only be for PR purposes. The Church does it because it’s a matter of taking responsibility on other dynamics, a fact which goes over their heads.
Like all criminal minds, Rathbun only sees others as he himself is, so convicts the Church and COB of doing things for self-aggrandizement. In the same breath, he indicts the Church for the standard public relations function of “making good works well known.” He tries to turn it into something sinister.
That tells you volumes about Rathbun’s own viewpoint on the dynamics.
It could be as simple as the fact that everything he does is for show, and he works so hard to present himself as NOT what he really is.

I can only imagine the convoluted mental gymnastics that Rathbun had to go through to reach this conclusion. We know he calculates incessantly, being that kind of psychotic, but his rationalizations and justifiers had to be like a maze.
It almost makes me shudder to try and think like that.
Not just that, but he’s also got people around him who have no traffic with data evaluation, spotting outpoints, etc.

Rathbun is actually using the “independent” field of practitioners as a front group for himself. He is not a Scientologist and doesn’t practice it. His intention is to destroy it utterly, not practice it. His connection with Caberta, Ortega, Berry, Bunker et al is crystal clear evidence of that.
But he puts on a front of wanting to practice it and “save” the subject.
At his level of the tone scale, he deals in reversals of fact. You’re not likely to find a better example of that phenomenon than Rathbun.

Notice that he’s also employing an apathy characteristic of trying to get others to mimic his sentiments in the hopes they will move further toward death. He’s probably aiming that at any active Church members who might see his comments.

I’ve been watching them for a couple of decades now, and it’s the same old routine.
The truth is that as long as people gain from the Tech, we will persist.

LOL! You reminded me of his driving. Man that guy is screwed up. I honestly have never been in a car with a slower, more cautious driver. He drives slower and worse than an 80 year old semi-blind grandmother. It’s because he doesn’t see what is in front of him, or if he does, he doesn’t believe it. So in his game it is OK for him to violate policy and yet accuse others of violating policy; it’s OK for him to be out-ethics and yet accuse others of being out-ethics. I’ve been seeing that too off and on for over 20 years and as soon as one fades out, another one shows up. Rathbun thought he was different but he isn’t. At his core, he’s just another of the same old sp’s, but with a newer soapbox for his venom.

I love seeing all the different local community leaders and personalities supporting the new orgs and LRH. No wonder Rathbun natters about it, it’s what should be being done.
But every time I think Rathbun has hit a new bottom, he proves me wrong.
If he were really clever, he would step back and look at himself and what he does objectively and notice that each petty rant like this just marks another milestone on his descent as a human being.

Totally agreed. You can’t make sense of insanity. That is why it is adjudicated to be insane – no sanity. And trying to understand the whys and wherefores of Marty’s insanity is a pointless activity. All one really needs to know is that he is insane, and that is pointed up by his actions in life, his ‘products’, and the contrary facts and warfare that surround him. The LRH quotes always explain all one needs to actually know about how his suppressive little mind works.
